"Between the Ears" is a blog for Mrs. Calhoun's Arts and Humanities class. Why "Between the Ears?" Between the ears refers to your brain; the part of you that matters and represents you. Each of us have something of value to share.
Quote of the Week
Drawing is the honesty of art. To draw does not mean simply to reproduce contours: drawing does not consist merely of line. Drawing is also expression, the inner form, the plane and modeling. See what remains after that. Drawing includes three and a half quarters of the content of painting. -- Jean Auguste Ingres Quote

ReplyDeleteThe history of storytelling begins with Ancient-African tribes. Each tribe had a griot-the oral historian of the tribe. The griot was guardian and transmitter of their past, present, and future. The griot held in his or her head the laws, codes of behavior, history, royal lineage, and legends of the tribe. As it was an oral history, no tale was written down. A griot would often use stories to share this knowledge with members of the tribe, thus began story telling as an oral tradition. One way to help remember these stories, griots would use music (key instrument-the drum) and audience participation through call and response.
