Quote of the Week

Drawing is the honesty of art. To draw does not mean simply to reproduce contours: drawing does not consist merely of line. Drawing is also expression, the inner form, the plane and modeling. See what remains after that. Drawing includes three and a half quarters of the content of painting. -- Jean Auguste Ingres Quote

Shakespeare Insults

Shakespeare, William (1564-1616), English playwright and poet, recognized in much of the world as the greatest of all dramatists. Shakespeare's plays communicate a profound knowledge of the wellsprings of human behavior, revealed through portrayals of a wide variety of characters. His characters often insult society and each other. When reading Shakespeare as a novel (rather than hearing it as a play, these insults are easy to miss. Some of the insults are obvious and easy to understand. Others take more analysis. Read the insults below and then use the link to make your own Shakespearean insult. Post your insult as your comment.

Thou art like a toad; ugly and venemous.
Shakespeare Insult – All’s Well That Ends Well
A most notable coward, an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise breaker, the owner of no one good quality.

Shakespeare – Henry V
Thine face is not worth sunburning.

Shakespeare Insult 23 – Henry IV Part 1
You are as a candle, the better burnt out.

Shakespeare Insults

From The Taming of the Shrew
How foul and loathsome is thine image
Think'st thou, though her father be very rich, any man is so very a fool to be married to hell?
There's small choice in rotten apples
